How 3PLs Are Evolving to Stay Competitive

Within the 3PL industry, freight brokerage is the segment that will experience the most disruption from emerging technologies, said Robert Hooper, CEO of Atlantic Logistics, a broker based in Jacksonville, Fla.

“I think there’s always going to be a place for us,” he said, but added that small brokers that continue to rely on “pounding the phones” may no longer be able to compete in five to 10 years...."

‍Working Through: Atlantic Logistics makes cuts, hopes to prevent layoffs:

While balancing the needs of his employees and a boom in business, Atlantic Logistics CEO Rob Hooper’s life has also been consumed in recent weeks by another challenge: applying for the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program.

After a long and frustrating application process, Atlantic Logistics was finally approved for a loan. The company is a member of Wells Fargo, but after the bank surpassed its lending capacity, Hooper had to search elsewhere to find the loan. Hooper settled on Ameris and despite being told once that the bank would only lend to members, the company finally received its SBA number — although they have not received the funding.

“It’s the most stress I’ve felt since 2008, 2009, 2010, since the financial crisis,” Hooper said.

‍Working Through: Atlantic Logistics' transition to remote work

The third-party logistics company just had its first shipment for medical device manufacturer Medtronic, and they've taken on new projects to make things as efficient and productive as possible but also to ensure that all 34 employees remain engaged despite working from home. Atlantic has employed new technologies, like Microsoft Teams, to maintain that engagement with employees and continue having meetings.

"It's great news to have new business coming on board in the midst of all that's going on, so I'm thankful for that," Hooper said. "I have plenty to keep me busy, but more importantly is keeping the team engaged and activated."

Being a truck driver is a difficult job under normal conditions. But doing it has become increasingly difficult since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Employees at Atlantic Logistics, a third-party provider of transportation services, wanted to do something to give back to the carriers and truckers who are giving their all and more in these challenging times.

Companies step-up efforts to supply PPE for Covid-19 pandemic

Companies from across the supply chain continue to step-up their efforts to get personal protective equipment (PPE) and other needed supplies to those on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of the latest efforts include supplying fuel for flights delivering PPE nationwide and continued retooling of manufacturing facilities to make hand sanitizer and face shields for essential workers
