This year, Santa did not send his magic blog elves to write my stories while I ate Christmas cookies in the office kitchen. I might be on the 2023 Naughty List.  

In an effort to clear my name and have a clean slate heading into the New Year, let me provide a quick roundup of what some Atlantic Logistics’ employees were doing for the community as 2022 drew to a close…

Carving Pumpkins for Molly’s Mile

Molly’s Mile is a charity set up by Janet Bates-Hudson in memory of her daughter, Molly Bates, who died in a car accident as a Delta State University student and member of the school’s swim team. Molly’s Mile provides students in need of financial assistance with scholarships for the University’s swim and diving team.

Clayton Rowe, Atlantic Logistics’ Controller, is definitely one of our most creative (and kind-hearted) employees and has been carving foam pumpkins for the Molly’s Mile Charity Raffle for years. Each pumpkin requires anywhere from eight to 15 hours to complete, and the raffle winners were able to choose their own design. Rowe carved three charity pumpkins this year, using his Day of Service to complete two of them. Over the past decade or so, Rowe has carved dozens of pumpkins for Molly’s Mile, raising funds in excess of $10,000.

Supporting First Coast Women’s Services

‍First Coast Women’s Services is a not-for-profit organization that provides free-of-charge lab-grade pregnancy testing, limited ultrasounds, options counseling, and medical and community referrals for the Jacksonville community. On Oct. 27, 2022, the organization held its Life Banquet at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. Atlantic Logistics’ HR and Office Manager Jan Brittingham was not only in attendance, she volunteered, using her Day of Service to help First Coast Women’s Services prepare for the big event.

‍Assisting Our Homeless Amid Harsh Winter Conditions

As we headed into Christmas weekend and record-breaking cold temperatures, Logistics Specialist Felecia Mallett spent time with some of Jacksonville’s homeless community, filling bellies and handing out blankets.  

On December 23, Mallett and her mother spent the day serving meals to the people at downtown’s City Rescue Mission. When they realized there was a serious shortage of warm blankets for those sheltering in nearby bus stations, including children, they went to three local thrift stores and purchased as many blankets and comforters as they could. Their efforts were not enough to match the ongoing need, Mallett said, and she started a drive to collect more warm blankets here at the office as Jacksonville’s homeless population continues to suffer from frigid temperatures.
