Finding the Reward in Rescue and Rehabilitation

Animals are near and dear to Teresa Peterson’s heart, as are the people who rescue and care for them. That’s why Peterson, a Senior Logistics Specialists at Atlantic Logisitics, chose to return to The Ark Wildlife Care and Sanctuary for her Day of Service.

Atlantic Logistics believes in giving back to its community, which is why each of its employees gets a paid day off to volunteer where and how they choose. For Peterson, that meant a return to The Ark with the hope she could lighten the workload of the people who heal and shelter the animals there. The Ark provides care, treatment and shelter to orphaned and/or injured wildlife with the goal of eventual release.

“The owner and director of The Ark takes care of these animals with only the help of his wife and a few volunteers,” Peterson said. “I’m passionate about serving others when they have dedicated their lives to these animals. Neither of these people gets the luxury of taking a vacation or going away for the holidays because this is their life!”

So, Peterson helps when she can, even occasionally donating some of her weekend time to assist at The Ark. During her last visit there, she helped build new shelves for the medical products, cleaned and organized the medical room, arranged supplies and labeled cabinets as well.  During the spring, The Ark may shelter 10 to 30 baby deer, which must be bottle-fed every morning and afternoon.

“The Ark needs help,” Peterson said. “During these crazy times, we cannot turn our backs on the animals that need us for survival, nor can we turn our backs on the individuals that dedicate their lives to helping them. Whether it’s donating money or your time, help is needed. Plus, getting dirty and interacting with some of the animals is rewarding beyond belief.”
