As part of our Atlantic Cares initiative, we encourage our team to take a work day and spend time with their favorite organization. Here our Director of Government Services, Lynn Talmadge describes her volunteer experiences:
Christian Family Chapel does Vacation Bible School a little different than most churches. Instead of having the children come to the church, we have The Power Up Club in the front yards of our members’ houses. The Junior and Senior high school students from the church go to the neighborhoods, where they play games and teach the children about Jesus Christ. They do this four days out of the week. We averaged over 1350 children per day, with the best day this year totaling 1425 children.
There are three components to bringing the word to the neighborhoods:
* The students get so revved up each morning before going to the neighborhoods, that they are ALL-IN for the Gospel of Christ.
* The Host of the Power Up clubs build relationships with their neighbors.
* The children learn about Jesus Christ.
On that Friday we have all the children and their families come to our church.
We call this Power Surge.
During Power Surge, the church rents water slides, we have carnival games, clowns, face painting, dunk tanks and food. We cook pizza, hamburgers and hot dogs, we have snow cones, cotton candy, and ice cream. We have a 1st aid station and a prayer station. The church really goes all out to show these children the loving spirit of Jesus.
