Atlantic Logistics helps in rebuilding Hurricane Michael damage

Hurricane Michael devastated the Florida Panhandle in 2018. With wind speeds topping 160+ mph, the powerful category 5 storm was the most powerful to hit the contiguous United States since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

Most everyone recalls seeing the video footage of damage done to Mexico Beach where the eyewall made landfall. The rebuilding of that community has been long and ongoing, yet two of our team have been involved and feel a deep sense of pride in their involvement in this specific project.

Erosion can continue to damage coastlines as well as low-lying areas affected by storms such as Hurricane Michael. Michael's effects were felt throughout the Southeastern United States, passing over North Carolina's Outer Banks, and heading back into the Atlantic Ocean. Erosion Control products, like those shown here, can often mitigate damage, adding stabilization, and promoting vegetation growth back to area beaten up by storms like Michael.

"Malcolm Thompson and I started shipping these erosion control mats to Mexico Beach after the last hurricane wiped it completely out," said Senior Logistics Specialist Sean Gresham, "it felt really good to help rebuild part of our state, and that community after such a devastating loss."

Erosion Control Mats like these, used in Tallahassee, Florida, were used to help rebuild parts of Mexico Beach, Fla, that was decimated by Hurricane Michael in 2018.

Having done nearly 200 loads to the area, Thompson and Gresham's specialty are Over Dimensional Loads like these that usually have some sort of community benefit to them. Road repair, construction projects, and oceanographic sciences are just a few examples of the freight these guys typically move, but this one really hit home for Gresham.

"Usually, the freight we move helps build new industries, bringing jobs to working families," Gresham continued. "A project like this really hits home, though. Helping rebuild and helping people to feel normal again, I love it. I love this part of my job. "
