Every year, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s International Roadcheck puts the trucking industry under a microscope, and 2026 will be no exception. Scheduled for May 12–14, this 72-hour inspection event is the largest of its kind across North America.
For shippers, it’s more than just a safety initiative. It’s a key moment that can influence capacity, transit times, and overall supply chain performance.
During Roadcheck, inspectors across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico carry out thousands of Level I inspections. These are detailed reviews of both driver credentials and vehicle condition.
If anything is out of compliance, trucks can be placed out of service immediately. That means shipments can be delayed without warning.
In 2026, enforcement will focus heavily on a few critical areas, including hours-of-service compliance, ELD tampering, and proper cargo securement. Violations in these areas can be costly, both operationally and financially, with penalties reaching up to $77,000.
Even when carriers are fully compliant, Roadcheck can still create ripple effects. With more inspections happening at the same time, things tend to slow down.
You may notice longer wait times at weigh stations, more roadside checks, and tighter capacity as some trucks are temporarily taken off the road. For time-sensitive shipments, even small delays can create scheduling issues.
That’s why planning ahead during Roadcheck week is so important.
