Atlantic Cares Supports Feeding Northeast Florida

If you go to the grocery store with a single 10-dollar bill, the items in your shopping cart are not likely to go far toward stopping hunger for anyone – but your 10-dollar donation to Feeding Northeast Florida can mean 60 meals for those in need.

Last year, this vital non-profit organization distributed more than 30 million pounds of food, providing 85,000 meals each day, in the area it serves.

Solving hunger is the single mission of Feeding Northeast Florida, a large non-profit organization that serves eight Northeast Florida counties. According to the foodbank, 1 in 7 adults and 1 in 5 children in the area experience some level of food insecurity. Working with partner agencies like City Rescue Mission, the Sulzbacher Center and the Salvation Army, they serve people in need every day, providing food to food pantries, health care clinics, and meal programs that serve families, children, seniors, and individuals at risk of hunger.

In addition, a new facility is helping to expand its mission in 2024. The organization’s purchase of the former Kinco Windows factory building, a 12-acre property on Old Kings Road, includes a primary warehouse and distribution and operations center for the 5,500 mile, 8-county-wide distribution. This doubles the food bank’s space from 60,000 to 120,000 square feet. The new facility also adds a composting program and energy-efficient freezer and cooler space.

“Getting healthy, nutritious food into the hands of those in need is our top priority at Feeding Northeast Florida,” said Susan King, President & CEO of Feeding Northeast Florida, in a press release about the expansion. “This new campus will allow us to expand both the depth and breadth of our services. We are so grateful for the support of our community in helping us continue our mission to end hunger here at home.”

That’s why Atlantic Logistics continues to support Feeding Northeast Florida through Atlantic Cares.

Feeding Northeast Florida depends on donations from food and grocery manufacturers, shippers, growers, community food drives and individuals, but they also rely on the thousands of volunteers who sort, label, box and help to distribute the food.

Before the acquisition of the new property, Feeding Northeast Florida could only use between 20 to 40 volunteers at one time, but the expansion allows up to 100 people to work together safely. The larger facility also can accommodate training sessions for the food bank or any of its 325 partner agencies.
